Thanks, I used my housemates DSLR and macro lens to get some decent close up shots. I'm no expert though, so I took a bunch of attempts at each subject to get a few decent photos.

Interesting question about the ground down barb thread possibly causing turbulence. I wouldnt have a clue myself but it definitely wouldnt have been ground down perfectly flat. The flow is definitely better, the card is idling at 50 now but the weather has been cooler so the ambient would have been about 15C this morning.

I wouln't say your thinking too hard, a lot of areas of water cooling can get down into some serious physics. Or so I gather from having done a fair bit of reading on overclockers forums.
