"Gigabyte I-RAM"
Joe Citarella - 6/3/05

page 2

SUMMARY: Too good to be true??

I-RAM

I talked to the engineer who is involved with this product and he gave me the following information:

  • The I-RAM will work with almost any motherboard
  • If the PC is off but on an active power circuit, the I-RAM is powered
  • There is no technical reason for a 4 GB limit
  • Pricing is in the $60-70 range
  • Product will be available early August
  • It might be possible to use the PCI-E slot, but no plans yet
I should stress that this is an early stage product - details could change between now and shipping.

I-RAM

P.S. from Ed: There's a more detailed article from the IDG News Service which can be found in a number of places, including PC World., which repeats what Joe found.

There's also an initial test of the device here. This article also says, sort of, that a RAID array is possible.
